CommentThe piping isometric shall be arranged such that it gives a clear readability. The piping line shall be split into reasonable large sections such that the drawing is not too crowded and at the same time avoid unnecessary small sections.

The following information shall be included:

  • Position numbers for each piping item;
  • Weld locations and numbers (field welds to be identified);
  • Flow arrow;
  • All inline equipment and instrument connections with tag numbers;
  • Special items with coding;
  • Dimensioned pipe support locations and support numbers including spring supports, etc.;
  • Penetrations;
  • Dimensions (including slope if relevant);
  • Reference to connecting isometric drawings;
  • Reference to attached equipment with tag number and nozzle number;
  • Bill of material including position numbers;
  • Line number (according to ENS);
  • Design pressures and temperatures;
  • Pressure test requirements;
  • NDT requirements;
  • Insulation requirements;
  • Heat trace requirements;
  • Surface treatment and topcoat colour requirements;
  • Service colour coding requirements;
  • Post weld heat treatment (PWHT) requirements;
  • Chemical cleaning requirements;
  • Pressure directive (PED) category (for EU countries);
  • Critical line and reference to Stress ISO no.;
  • Reference to P&ID;
  • Area code;
  • Material type;
  • Dry weight, wet weight (content) and CoG.

NOTE: For equipment packages where the amount and size of piping is moderate, or the piping might be mostly for support functions (cooling, lubrication, drain etc.), piping isometrics from the manufacturer are not necessary. For large packages with a considerable amount of larger piping, isometrics for the main piping should be delivered. Selection should be done early in the project.
