Comment | For standard off-the-shelf devices and assemblies/SIS sub-systems, the above documents should be delivered as supplier standard documents (project specific content minimized). Traceability between specific model/variant/configuration delivered with those covered in the standard document shall be ensured. To achieve this, it is good practice to mark-up the relevant parts of the standard document that apply to the specific delivery. Device/component: For IEC 61508 compliant devices the following supplier SIL documentation shall be delivered:
For non-compliant devices, a Safety Manual (and evt. other complementary documents) shall be delivered in accordance with IEC 61511 and including underlying information supporting the claimed performance. For components claimed to be proven in use in accordance with IEC 61508, the documentary evidence shall be supplied (ref IEC 61508-2 sub clause 7.4.10). Assembly /SIS sub-system: For assemblies/SIS sub-systems within scope of delivery, a Safety Manual in accordance with IEC 61511 shall address the complete assembly. The SIL documentation for the devices forming part of the assembly shall be delivered (incl. from sub-suppliers) and all referred device SIL documents shall be delivered or attached to the assembly safety manual. |
NORSOK Z-001 rationale | Supplier SIL documentation (Safety Manual, Certificate, etc) shall be provided for devices and assemblies/SIS sub-systems when part of a Safety Instrumented Function. The supplier SIL documentation provides the necessary information about how to safely apply a device or assembly/SIS-subsystem and integrate it into a complete safety instrumented function. It addresses operation, maintenance, failure rates and other reliability data, fault detection and constraints associated with the device or assembly for the intended configurations and operating environment. |
